LSS was inaugurated on 5th January 1999 at a function organized at Nehru Sidhant Kendra, Ludhiana. A galaxy of industrialists and businessmen, eminent citizens, intellectuals, profess ionals and young people were invited on this occasion to be enraptured by a unique musical experience, befittingly titled “Sound of Magic”.
The programme had two explicit performances. The first performance was an exquisite Sarod recital by Ustad Biswajit Roy Chowdhury, the renowned Sarod maestro, considered by many as second only to Ustad Amzad Ali Khan. The second performance was an unforgettable experience of fusion music for the people of Ludhiana by renowned percussionists Shivamani and Taufiq Quereshi and Sharidhar Mahadevan who cast a spell on the audience by their breathtaking vocal renderings. The performance was backed up by Indrajeet Sharma on the keyboard.
The cultural initiative taken by LSS and the culturally rich performance of the evening were widely appreciated which was evident through the hundreds of appreciation letters which the secretariat of LSS received.
Nahar International Enterprises, Ludhiana Beverages Limited and Rockman Cycles Limited jointly sponsored the inaugural programme. The venue was provided free of charge by Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust.
