Jugalbandi On Santoor, held on 30th April 1999, was the third in the series of cultural programmes held under the auspices of LSS. Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, the acknowledged maestro of Santoor and his prodigious son Rahul Sharma accompanied by Shaft Ahmed Khan on the Tabla brought to the Ludhiana audience a classical musical experience of the highest order.
“Music is an expression of emotions through the raag and taal and no one needs to have the intricate knowledge of Indian Classical Music in order to enjoy it.”
These were the introductory words with which the maestro, Shiv Kumar Sharma embarked upon weaving the magic of traditional Indian music. The father-son duo accompanied by Shafat Ahmed Khan on the tabla started the concert by playing raag “Jansamohini” followed by some of the finest musical creations in the classical tradition. The two-hour long performance culminated in a dhun based on the raag mishra pahari on dadra taal.
The programme received wide acclaim and was given extensive coverage in the local media. This programme was sponsored jointly by Avon Cycles Limited, Ralson (India) Limited and Eastman Cast and Forge Limited.
