Date: 1st December 1999, Present by North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala
Since its inception, LSS had not yet unearthed the jewels of our Indian folk art. To put this missing link in place, LSS organized a presentation of Folk Dances of Rajasthan & Punjab by the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala on 1st December, 1999 at Nehru Sidhant Kender.
This programme was a novel experience for the audience of Ludhiana. The audience was completely won over by the troupe of men (all belonging to a family) from Rajasthan who sang the tribal vocals called Kohinoor Langha. The audience received a pleasant surprise when sometime later they saw on television, the same troupe sing to the American President Bill Clinton, during his visit to India. The audience was also enchanted by the Kalbalia Dance from Jodhpur performed by a group of beautiful tribal women dancers and dumbfounded by the vibrancy and burst of energy in the performance of Malwai Gidha by folk artists of Punjab.
The program was widely appreciated and reported in local media including the cable network.
North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, sponsored artists’ performance fee andCastrol India Limited sponsored other expenses. The venue was provided free of charge by Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust and light and sound was arranged by Cyclone Acoustics.
