As the interview started. the first thing that struck me about this famously funny man was his laid back attitude. and over the next few minutes he was transformed. He studied at Lawrence school in Sanawar and then at Oxford University, from where he got his MBA . so how did he become a comedian though he had a job as a consultant? : I was with some friends, watching some comedians and that was when I said to myself .
‘Hey I can do that and that was it for me that was when I decided that I would not head back to the office but rather , be in front of an audience, as a comedian. And after that I did 250 shows in one year . with the one in Hyderabad being about the 600th.”
There has been no going back, he moved on the perform in the UK. and was chosen to be in the semifinals of the world famous show , Last Comic Standing. So having performed in the UK and USA, how different was it performing in Hyderabad ? “It was awesome, it was my first time in Hyderabad, actually and the crowd really surprised me. It was very different from performing in the UK and U SA. it was much more fun: you can talk to the crowd in your own language and in your own way . It was like performing at home.”
It is while talking to him that I realized that stand-up comedy too is a performing art of which Papa CJ is a master. It’s no wonder then that this man is an inspiration to all those wishing to follow in his foot-steps. So what would he like to say to these people and pat come the reply: “Go for it . you can ‘i think so much about it . just do it . yes, there willbe some good shows and some bad ones. The good ones do help but it’s the bad ones you really learn from , when the crowd pushes you off stage or throws things or whatever. you go back and realize that yes, this is what I could have done. it’s all about learning and growing as an artist: you just have to go for it.”
